Your treatment is based on your specific problems identified during your evaluation. Each visit we assess the effectiveness of the previous treatment, and progress your program until recovery is achieved. Our physical therapists have training in research based treatment as well as taking continuing education courses to ensure they are providing the best possible care.

To assist you in your rehab goals, we utilize a combination of exercise, manual therapy technique, and various modalities. The types of exercise that may be indicated include balance, propioception, stabilization programs (gym balls, Pilates, isometrics), stretching, muscle energy techniques, functional strengthening, sport specific retraining and return to work strengthening. Manual therapy techniques include extremity joint mobilization, intermittent cervical/lumbar traction, soft tissue work, cross friction massage, muscle energy, trigger point release, and myofascial release techniques. Physical therapy also utilizes various therapeutic modalities which include kinesio tex taping techniques, paraffin, ultrasound-phonophoresis, interferential electrical stimulation, neuromuscluar re-education, TENS, and more. Our staff emphasizes a functional approach, with the goal of each session resulting in the patient being able to do something they could not do before. As joints, muscles and tendons return to normal function, pain generally improves.

What can I expect my first visit?

Please come 15 minutes early to complete medical questionnaires, or you may download these FORMS and complete them prior to your visit. The first appointment includes a thorough evaluation as well as treatment session which is scheduled for 45 minutes. Your follow-up visits are also 45-60 minutes. Your therapist will take time to get a complete understanding of your problem (including a complete history and a comprehensive evaluation) and provide you with information about what your treatment will include and the expected time frame for recovery. You should be given a schedule of your physical therapy appointments at the completion of your first visit as well as a copy of all home instructions.

You are welcome to have family members present during your physical therapy visit. Be prepared to have appropriate clothing. For example, if you are having knee problems be sure to wear clothing that will allow this area to be exposed. If you do have this clothing at home we do have a collection of shorts and gowns for people to wear.

Your success hinges on your ability to be involved in your own care and improvement of your physical health.
